What do emerging, concerning, and urgent mean in the Concerning Emotions report?

What the urgency levels in the Concerning Emotions Report mean, and how a student's level clears

Written by Peekapak Support

Emerging, Concerning, and Urgent are the three urgency levels you'll see in the Concerning Emotions Report. Each level is based on the pattern of a student's recent check-ins, and helps you notice students who may benefit from a caring check-in. Levels clear on their own as a student's check-ins change, so there's nothing for you to dismiss.

Who is this for?

  • Teachers see the levels for students in their own classes.

  • School administrators, counselors, and wellbeing leads see the levels for students across the whole school.

Students never see their level.

How are check-ins sorted?

Every feeling a student can choose on the check-in wheel is sorted into one of three groups:

  • Not a concern

  • Down mood

  • High-concern (these also count as down moods)

A student's level comes from the pattern of these check-ins over time, not from a single feeling on its own.

Urgency Levels Explained:

Level

What places a student here

What you'll see

Emerging

Their last 3 check-ins were all down moods, however far apart they were

The student is included in your weekly recap email and shown in the report

Concerning

1 high-concern check-in

A same-day email (Grades 6–12 only), plus the weekly recap and the report

Urgent

2 or more high-concern check-ins

A bell in your top navigation, plus the weekly recap and the report

If more than one level applies to a student, the report shows the highest one.

How do urgency levels clear?

Levels clear on their own. There's nothing for you to dismiss or mark as done.

  • Emerging clears at the student's next check-in that isn't a down mood.

  • Concerning and Urgent clear after four weeks without a high-concern check-in.

Once a student's level clears, they stop appearing in the weekly summary emails.

A note about PK–5 students..

For PK–5 students, no feeling is sorted as high-concern. A single check-in from a young child isn't reliable enough to act on the same day. This means PK–5 teachers never receive a same-day email. PK–5 students who may need a check-in appear in the weekly recap and the report instead.

Where do I find it?

Each student's urgency level is shown in their row in the Concerning Emotions Report.

  1. Log in to Peekapak.

  2. Go to the Reports page.

  3. Select the Concerning Emotions Report card under Teachers or Administrators.

You can also open the report from the link in any notification email, or from the bell icon in the top navigation.
