For optimal learning, we recommend teaching 1-2 Peekapak lessons a week. With ELA connections, educators often integrate Peekapak into their ELA block or transitional times like morning meetings.
Peekapak provides flexibility for educators to facilitate lessons as a whole class activity, making learning accessible to students with limited access to technology. Frequently used tips to use Peekapak as a whole class includes:
Facilitate a shared writing activity- In your teacher console library, select your unit (if you haven’t started, select ‘Self-Regulation’) and click lesson 1 to project the Peekapak letter as a class read aloud on your Interactive whiteboard (IWB) or projector screen. Have students write a response to the Peekapak character!
Conduct a whole class read aloud and classroom discussion- On your IWB/projector, display the digital SEL unit story to read as a whole class. Utilize the lesson discussion questions to facilitate a rich conversation with your students. With access to leveled readers, you can also use the read alouds with guided reading groups.
Teach a Peekapak lesson using Google Slides- Peekapak lessons also house google slides that you can project on your IWB/projector to teach a whole class lesson.
Reinforce SEL learning with whole class digital mini games- In the top right hand corner of your console, click ‘PLAY MYPEEKAVILLE’ to access student digital SEL mini games. Display and model student games (including the daily moodboard check-in and character quests) on your IWB/projector for whole class participation. The myPeekaville lesson plans include discussion prompts for educators.
Include Peekapak in your ELA centers/stations - Providing access to a few devices at a Peekapak literacy center enables students to independently access the digital myPeekaville mini games. Lesson resources may also spark a literacy center for students to work on independently or in smaller group work.
